A five-bedroom main house, three-bedroom guest cottage, guardian apartment and covered terraces are all accessible from beautifully manicured lawns which encompass natural parkland and formal gardens. A very private swimming pool, partially set in a ruin, is tucked away at the far end of the garden.
The Main House
The main house which looks outward north and west towards wonderful views is set around two sides of a courtyard.
The drawing room on the lower ground floor is cozy but impressive with its stone vaulted ceiling and large open fireplace. I love the delicate light juxtaposed against the rugged ceiling.
The dining room with a similar stone vaulted ceiling is set deeper among the stone arches.
So fabulous for intimate dining or large dinner parties
Access is available to the garden through French doors.
The ground floor main salon with exposed beams and more stone walls.
The large fireplace is the heart of the house leading to both the sitting room and the kitchen. Many of the rooms in the chateau are accessible to the courtyard through French doors.
The sitting room provides access to the bedrooms as well as down to the drawing room and dining room.
Also adjoining the main salon and bathed in light, an artist's studio offers incredible panoramic views of the countryside and the local medieval town.
It would be difficult to get any work done with such a view.
The kitchen and breakfast area offers seating in front of a large fireplace and accesses both the north garden and covered terrace in the courtyard.
A cozy seating area in front of the kitchen fireplace
A corridor with a gorgeous arched door and beamed ceiling accesses three of the bedrooms.
A view of the kitchen from the corridor
A longer view of the corridor
A private picture gallery
Beautiful patina on a door
The large master bedroom with a contemporary iron bed. The use of red adds visual excitement and ties the bedroom to the corridor.
A view of the master bedroom from the adjoining dressing area.
An ensuite shower room in the master bedroom
Spiral stairs lead up to...
A very private bath on the first floor in the west tower
A second bedroom known as the "snoring" room. I wonder if this is where noisy sleepers were banished for the night.
A third bedroom with beautiful arched doors and an iron bed. The terracotta floors wander in from the corridor.
A charming guest cottage with three bedrooms and two baths sits on the opposite side of the courtyard from the main house. I like this facade a bit more than the main house.
